After the looting of the palace during WW11, the Amber Room was dismantled and shipped to Königsberg in Germany. It was moved again during bombing raids but it has never been found since. Over twenty years of work by Russian craftsmen and donations from Germany saw the reconstructed Amber Room opened again at Catherine Palace in 2003.
